My name is Sam Mohamed. I graduated from dental school in 1986. Following a short career in a hospital dental service, I worked as an associate for a number of years until I purchased my own private practice. I bought this private practice from the owner, for whom I had worked. The previous owner remained in my practice till I sold the practice in 2012 and then started a squat practice in 2013. As the new owner, I set out to create a brand and began projecting the image for which the brand stood.
I stumbled upon many obstacles, including my own familiar paradigm for practicing dentistry, the rigid mindset of a long-established team, my limited business experience, and ineffective communication and leadership skills. The list goes on. Dental school curriculum did not provide any training in the most important skills we need when we begin our professional careers.
Yet, I had one valuable tool within me. I had intense drive. I had a burning passion that propelled me to wake up each day to implement the changes that would produce the results I sought. Was it painful? You bet it was! Was it stressful? Sure! Fortunately for you, it doesn’t have to be like that!
See, I made mistakes. I made a mountain of mistakes. But these mistakes pushed me to educate myself (and my team) and to apply new and effective strategies, which ultimately led to a fantastic success story.
When I took over the reins of the practice it was barely generating a profit. Amazingly, when I sold the practice seven years later, it had grown to a seven treatment room practice and was generating a seven-figure annual income.
And when I started the squat practice where I am still; I tried my best to apply the principles I painfully learned to build and scale my current practice.
I realized early on in my career that good clinical dental skills were not enough to ensure success. Having a robust system to deploy the skills and fulfil a dream career was just as important.
I am not a business guru, or any other type of guru. I am just a dentist who happens to have stumbled and fallen quite a lot. Now that I know where the potholes are located, I have developed a roadmap and shall try help YOU to steer clear of those potholes.
Yours, Sam Mohamed
